Here we are at such a special time of year, when the weather is just right to think about the joy of reading at home and gift giving season is starting to trickle in.
I love discovering new books with my daughter. I’ve found also, for big birthdays or school milestones, the fun of sharing one of my favorite series with her presented beautifully in a box set. Gifting a collection of books to a child is a magical way to share something special from our childhoods with the next generation, and even better with a promise to read or discuss them together.
The best boxed book sets for children are ones that I think can grow with the child from being read to through independent reading and even live on in the family through siblings. It’s such a pretty gift to give and open!
My Favorite Children’s Book Collections in Box Sets
The Babysitter’s Club Retro Set – I gifted this retro tin set to my daughter for the first day of second grade and it was a big hit. I love picking up these books that are the same covers I read! We love the show on Netflix and the retro tin has been used to store all kinds of treasure.
The Beverly Cleary Collection – This box set was like a portal for our family, and I’m certain, inspired our move from American to Germany. I love that it has everyone, from Ramona and Henry to Ralph.
Yasmin Paperback Boxed Set – This newer series about a Pakistani American second grader looks so fun!
The Complete Calvin and Hobbes – Another big collection for us, it looks like this collection reprint has been updated with smaller spines that will be so helpful to little readers. We’ve read the whole thing a few times now.
Choose Your Own Adventure – What a classic! I cannot wait to gift these.
The Little Women Collection – We are enjoying Little Women and there’s already excitement from my little audience of what happens next. I loved how Jo’s life went on in the books following in the series. This collection is the unabridged text which I always look for!
How to Train Your Dragon: The Complete Series – What a mega gift! My daughter loves these movies.
Magic Tree House Classic Collection – I love how these books introduce history, fantasy and travel.
The Roald Dahl Collection – I love. the classics! This could be a great gift with the new Matilda movie on Netflix in December.
The Nancy Drew Series – My daughter loved Harriet the Spy. I can’t wait for her to meet Nancy!
The Hardy Boys Series – A well-rounded home has both Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys, right?
The Complete Adventures of the Borrowers – I love the concept of these sweet stories. I think The Borrowers might live in our flat.
Mary Poppins – Can it come with our own British nanny?
Anne of Green Gables Complete Book Box Set – Your child might have a flair for the dramatic when the first grade teacher recommends Anne With An E. 🙂
The Complete Peter Rabbit – The original for us! Any doubt I had that timeless literature could entertain modern children floated away with Potter’s engaging language and immersive watercolors.
